In other places, this species lives in groups on branching corals, such as Acropora spp.. Forms dominance hierarchy, in which larger, higher ranked individuals have priority access to food.
Exhibits bi-directional sex change (or reversed sex change) under experimental conditions, but said in other studies that sex change rarely occurs in the wild.
