Starspotted grouper


  • Feeds on fishes and crustaceans.
  • Matures at around 19 cm (Total Length).


  • Body and head covered with numerous polygonal brown spots. Spots are closely packed, leaving small, triangular white spaces in between and giving the appearance of stars.
  • Back and caudal peduncle with several brown saddle blotches formed by dark polygonal spots.
  • A brown blotch right behind eye. The similar looking Honeycomb grouper and
  • Longfin grouper do not have this blotch.
