Characteristics

  • Usually occurs singly in Hong Kong, but schools near the water surface elsewhere.
  • Feeds on fishes and crustaceans.

Description

Adult:

  • Dorsally silvery blue to grey, ventrally silvery white.
  • 1 to 5 horizontally arranged black dots on mid body in large fish.
  • Front margins of dorsal and anal fins black. Upper and lower margins of caudal fin also black.

Juvenile:

  • Body silvery with no dots.
  • Front margins of dorsal and anal fins black. Upper and lower margins of caudal fin also black.
