Red-toothed triggerfish


  • Eggs are demersal. Females tend eggs by fanning and blowing water. Both males and females guard eggs.
  • Usually occurs singly or in pairs. Known to form large aggregations elsewhere.
  • Males maintain territories containing a few females.
  • Planktivorous.


  • Body dark blue.
  • Head pale blue.
  • Two dark blue stripes extend from eye to mouth.
  • Teeth red.
  • Caudal fins lunate. Both upper and lower lobes elongated.
