Raccoon butterflyfish

Characteristics

  • Recorded singly, in pairs or in small groups.
  • Adults primarily feed on hard corals, such as Acropora spp., while juveniles primarily feed on polychaetes. This species also feed on a wide range of invertebrates, such as hydroids, gastropods and shrimps.

Description

  • Body yellow, growing darker dorsally.
  • Several diagonal dark stripes on body.
  • A black vertical bar runs through each eye, followed by a white vertical bar.
  • A curved black marking behind the white bar runs from operculum to dorsal fin. This marking is absent or unclear in juveniles.
  • In juveniles, there is a black spot on the posterior part of dorsal fin.
