Flathead grey mullet

Characteristics

Often recorded in schools. In the pacific coast of Mexico, this species can live to at least 12 years old. Feeds on zooplanktons, detritus and benthic organisms.

Description

  • Body grey to olive-green dorsally. Silver on sides and white ventrally.
  • Body has 6 to 7 horizontal stripes.
  • Diffused bluish black spot on pectoral fin base.
  • Transparent eyelid (adipose eyelid).
