Doublebar cardinalfish

Characteristics

  • Mostly encountered singly or in pairs when adults. Juveniles can be in small and loose schools.
  • Not much is known about the species’ biology, and there is a need for a thorough taxonomic study on this species in Hong Kong to investigate and facilitate identification between look-alike species.
  • Previously recognized as Apogonichthyoides pseudotaeniatus.

Description

  • Body colouration pale reddish brown to slivery-white with a hint of blue, sometimes with dark brown colouration towards front of body near head.
  • A pair of dark brown to black vertical bars down both sides. Bars appear to continue up the front edge of first and second dorsal fins.
  • A black spot on caudal peduncle.
  • White anterior margin with dark brown streak on pelvic fin.
