Often recorded singly. Juveniles may appear in small groups.
Adults crush the shells of barnacles and urchins with their strong beaks for feeding. Juveniles associate with drifting seaweed and feed on planktons there.
Description
Body white with several vertical black bars in juveniles. Body slivery grey with vertical dark grey bars in adult females. Dark grey with black snout and no bars on body in large adult males.
